My practice focuses on all areas of residential and commercial real estate matters, zoning law and permitting, land use planning and permitting, estate planning, guardianship and conservatorship petitions, landlord-tenant law, municipal liquor licensing and permitting, general probate proceedings, business formations and partnership agreements, and other criminal law matters.

I come from a long line of Nantucket Natives, going all the way back to Richard Swain, one of the 9 original proprietors that settled Nantucket in 1659. My family members have continued to reside on the island ever since. I was born on the island and attended Nantucket Elementary School, Cyrus Peirce Middle School, and Nantucket High School.

After graduating from NHS, I attended the University of Massachusetts – Amherst where I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and a minor in Film Studies. In 2011, I enrolled at the University of Massachusetts School of Law. While at Umass Law, I was a member of the Law School’s Jessup International Moot Court Team, clerked for the Honorable Francis McIntyre at the Bristol County Superior Court House, worked as a research assistant for Professor Dwight Duncan, and assisted in filing an amicus curiae brief with the United States Supreme Court. I also represented indigent residents of Fall River in Landlord-Tenant Disputes. ​

I moved back to Nantucket while I was awaiting my Bar Exam results and began working as an associate attorney for Vaughan, Dale, Hunter, and Beaudette, P.C. On January 1, 2020, I became a partner and the name of our firm was changed to Vaughan, Dale, Hunter, Beaudette and Swain, P.C.   

 

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my wife Julianne, our son Bryan, and our dog Mitchum at the beach and hiking the island’s trails. I also am an avid boater and golfer and enjoy all that Nantucket has to offer.
